Who Are We and Why Keep it Real?

I have been doing a lot of thinking about this page, and it has taken on an Everest type challenge. I wanted this part of my blog to tell you a little bit about myself, my family, and why we have chosen to make changes to our lifestyle.

I also wanted to define what Keeping it Real is in our household, as I know that it is not the same for everyone, and nor should it be. I truly believe that the secret to living happily with your nutritional decisions is to make sure that you are doing what is right for you and your family, and not trying to emulate or follow anyone else. There are so many 'plans' out there all making the claim of being the nutritional holy grail, however I think that the biggest error with all of these plans is that they forget that we are all individuals and we all make our own choices and have our own biochemistry, health issues, emotions, cultural factors and so many other things that make the human species so darn amazing and complex!

When it comes to any form of eating 'plan' there are always the extremists in each group who will be unwilling to allow any modification or variation to the plan, and who in many instances belittle and abuse anyone who dares to stray from the path. That is NOT the intention with this blog.

The idea behind this blog is to show your typical kiwi family (or indeed any family or individual!) how they can incorporate real food into their everyday life, whilst shop at the local supermarket, sticking to a budget, and living life in the real world with so many different food options available.
